LEAP DRIVING SCHOOL Terms & Conditions

Pupil must hold a valid, signed UK Provisional driving licence & present it to Instructor on first lesson.

You will be required to read a standard number plate from 20 meters (67 feet) on your first lesson. Glasses or contact lenses must be worn if needed.

Instructors have the right to cancel a lesson & withhold the car if they suspect the pupil is under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or an impairing prescription.

Payment for lessons is either in advance or on the day of the lesson either by bank transfer or cash.

If you wish to cancel a lesson 24 hours notice should be given – failure to do so could result in the lesson being charged.

If your instructor turns up on time at a pre–arranged pick-up point & you do not show your instructor will wait 15 minutes – if there is no contact made the instructor will leave & you will be charged for the lesson.

Driving Test bookings must be made with the prior knowledge, approval & agreement of your instructor – failure to do so may result in the instructor & car not being available for the test booking & any fees paid maybe lost which would be the pupils responsibility & not the fault of the instructor.

Failure to meet the required DVSA driving standards before your last cancellation date (currently 10 working days – Monday to Saturday count as working days but Sundays & public holidays do not) may result in your instructor withholding the car from the driving test – this is within guidance with the DVSA’s rules to protect the safety of the pupil, the examiners & other road users. A mock test will be carried out prior to the last cancellation date & failure to meet the required driving standards as set out in the DVSA Ready to Pass Campaign https://readytopass.campaign.gov.uk may result in you having to move your practical test back. As of May 2026, you are only permitted to move a practical test twice. If you have already moved your practical test twice & are not at the required standard in the instructors opinion to pass the practical test, then the instructor reserves the right to withhold the car & their services from taking the pupil to test & the pupil will lose the test fee at no cost to the instructor. If the pupil decides to carry on & take the test in their own vehicle, they must make sure they have the correct Insurance in place and are taking the test at their own risk, the instructor accepts no liability if a test is taken resulting in any accidents or injuries.

If the DVSA cancels your test at short notice, this is not the fault of your instructor & any new date the DVSA gives the pupil will only go ahead if the instructor is available at the new date & time though every effort will be made to accommodate.

Abusive language, threatening behaviour or disregard for road safety will result in the immediate termination of the lesson without any refund.

If the instructor has to cancel your lesson through no fault of their own such as a mechanical breakdown of the tuition car, bad weather or the previous pupils lesson or practical test has over run for unavoidable reasons & your instructor cannot arrive in good time they will rearrange your lesson for the next mutually convenient date & time.

Please note the DVSA state that the average first time learner requires 40 to 50 hours of professional lessons typically paired with 20 plus hours of private practice if available to achieve a pass – however these figures vary considerably depending on the pupil with nervous pupils often needing more lessons to pass.
